Schedule

Hello Curler,

Draw times will be finalized after the registration deadline, but your team can select their preferred  times after registration and payment has been completed. Draw times for your team are listed on the Teams page, but may be subject to change until registration has closed.

Our Draw Master will finalize and publish draw times by the Wednesday before the event.   The majority of teams will receive their preferred times, but some pools may need to be filled, reduced, or closed based on popularity.

If you have any questions or requests for times, please email our Draw Master Dean Jones at drawmaster -at- ironmancurling -dot- com

Reminder, please follow all current provincial health restrictions: If you plan to attend, please use the online Covid self-screening tool before deciding if you should be attending. Remind your teammates as well, and thanks for your cooperation.

Recreational Division

This is the division you want if you are looking to curl with family or a group of friends but would like the option of playing on shorter curling sheets and not having the pressure of trying to win. Here’s a breakdown of the Recreational division:

  • Recreational pools each have 4 teams and pools are lettered A through as many pools as are required.
  • Games are played on multi purpose sheets with a shorter curling sheet option (under 60 feet from hog to Green house T-line) so Recreational teams can play on shorter sheets if they so choose. (Note: if at least 1 of the 2 teams wants to play on the shorter sheets then both teams will play on the shorter sheets)
  • Each team is guaranteed 3 games, games go to 6 ends. Ties go to skip stones.
  • Each team will play all 3 other teams in their pool, win or lose.
  • Recreational division will (usually) curl 1 game on Friday evening and 2 games on Saturday.
  • There are NO playoffs or prizes on Sunday, so no pressure to win. Just have fun!
  • All Recreational division teams can win a Silver Corn Broom for the Fundraising Challenge if they are one of the top 3 fundraising teams or if they raise over $1000.
  • Silver Corn Brooms for the Fundraising Challenge may be handed out during the Sunday closing ceremonies (see below) or after the event weekend if teams are not present.

Note: We require 4 teams per Recreational division pool to make up the draws properly, so depending on the number of registrations we may have to adjust your chosen pool and/or draw times.

High School Tournament

This new tournament within a tournament is open to all kids enrolled in high schools in Winnipeg. You could become the first ever Ironman Outdoor Curling – High School Tournament Champions! Here’s a breakdown of the High School Tournament:

  • High School Tournament pools each have 8 teams and pools are numbered from 1 to 4 (as required).
  • Games are played on full sized curling sheets.
  • Each team is guaranteed 3 games, games go to 6 ends. Ties go to skip stones.
  • The first 2 games will decide which playoff group you may be in (A B C or D). Win game 1 and stay in A group, lose and move to B group. Win game 2 in A group and stay in A group, lose and move to C group. Win game 2 in B group and stay in B group, lose and move to D group.
  • Game 3 is elimination, if we have more than 1 pool then winners of A B and C move on to Sunday playoffs, everyone else is done for the weekend.
  • Stay in A group and go undefeated all weekend and be crowned the Ironman Outdoor Curling – High School Tournament Champions!
  • All High School Tournament teams can also win a Silver Corn Broom for the Fundraising Challenge if they are one of the top 3 fundraising teams or if they raise over $1000. In 2023 we gave out 11 brooms!
  • Silver Corn Brooms for the Fundraising Challenge may be handed out when you first check-in to the registration table (if you have already raised $1000) or during the Sunday closing ceremonies (see below) or after the event weekend if teams are not present during the closing ceremonies.

The Fundraising Challenge

This challenge is open to all teams who wish to participate. The top 3 fundraising teams that collect the most donations for charity will be award the Silver Corn Broom during the closing ceremonies. We would love if all the recipients would join us at closing ceremonies to receive their award and for photos.

Pool Sponsors

   Title Sponsor Nirvana Waterworks

During the event each pool will be renamed to a sponsor’s name for that pool, such as Nirvana Waterworks. Your pool’s name may be based on the sponsor also having a team in the pool you are curling in, so look for that team and thank them for being a sponsor. Without their help this event wouldn’t happen.

Ironman Curling Additional Notes

  • Opening Ceremonies will (usually) be just before the opening draw. Speeches and bagpiper will perform depending on the weather conditions.
  • Times and curling sheets subject to change, depending on number of team entries.
  • Final official draw times and sheet numbers will be on the schedule board inside the Redboine Boat Club and posted online on this page closer to the event after registrations have closed.
  • Depending on the number of Recreational division entries, some sheets will be multi purpose sheets which can be used for the Recreational division games (Recreational houses will be 36 feet closer, shown in green on the sample drawings) as well as Championship division and High School Tournament games (houses will be regulation size, shown in blue/red on the sample drawings).
  • Prizes and awards will be handed out at the closing ceremonies, which will take place right after the final games on Sunday.

Good luck everyone and have fun!
