Ironman bonspiel committee hopeful, pro-active for the 15th annual event location

The Subaru Canada Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel committee members are brooms-deep in planning what will be their 15th year, and treading to be another sold out event. The event is currently scheduled to be held on the Red River at the Historic Forks, Feb. 5-7, 2016 – despite The Forks’ announcement of the fate of the river trail.

“The location on the Red River will allow us to build a complete 10 full-sheet rink,” says Michael Thompson, event director. “Based on passed events, we are projecting the 2016 event to be our biggest yet, so we needed to accommodate for its size.”

“We are meeting with The Forks to discuss the gravity of the situation,” mentions Eric Dawson, lifelong committee member. “We will discuss with them, and various other locations, alternative accommodations for this year’s bonspiel.”

In the last 14 years, the event has raised over $61,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. This year, the committee has set a fundraising goal of $15,000 – one they are confident will be achieved with their ambitious 88-team goal.

The 15th annual event will go on, as planned. Any alternative locations will be communicated to participants in a timely manner, should an alternate location be required.
